Change is Overrated?

Alright so at the above article we looked at how change is doing wonders for one artist in the music world and it seems to paint a pretty convincing case that people get tired of same old- same old, and that we need to be always changing and reinventing ourselves... Take one look at this picture and you will know where i am going with this...
Alright! For those of you who don't know these guys, you may be lucky or un-lucky... depending on how you see them, but they are a well known band known as Nickelback!. Nickelback in my mind have defied the odds to an extent... They are the poster boys for we won't change... We will keep doing the same thing over and over...our look, music, our lyrics, will always be the same and sound the same... And much to my amazement it has worked... Every album they put out gains at least 3 well known singles... Everyone knows them... Their concerts sell big... and being a "Rolling Stone" guru that i am, the magazine that is, apparently their latest album "All The Right Reasons", which features the single "Photograph" and now has a new single "Savin Me" has sold better than past albums and they keep climbing... Nickelback hasn't lost fans by offering the same thing everytime, rather their fan base has continued to grow and they get more exposure each time they drop something new... While people like me cringe at the uncreativity and simpleness, if not lameness, lol, of Nickelback, I have to admit, I always find myself enjoying their singles at first, they're always very catchy, and i know the lyrics to all their singles immediatley upon being on radio....
Whatever they do, they're doing it right and it appears that they are offering people familiarity, something that most people, groups etc... don't offer very often... While most people push "Change" and lot of time is very successful (See Above Post), or at times "Alienating", Nickelback pushes "familiarity" and does just as well, if not better.... I wonder why this is?.... Is there something to familiarity that people enjoy? Is it a good thing? Can we as the Church learn anything from it, or is familiarity and lack of change the Churches problem???.... Or are maybe some things meant not to change? Does trying to impose change on everything ruin something? No matter how cool or spooky it seems?? These are just some thoughts i've been having lately... I won't answer them i'll just pose them (I kinda sound like a guy ranting against something lol)... What i will say is that I'm starting to like change more and more as time goes by and see the benefit of it... but part of me thinks that some things don't need to change... and should remain the same... What do you think? Do we always have to be changing everything and insist that we're doing everything wrong... or is there something to simplicity and familiarity?... What's with our fascination with new?

Comments:
well i find that change can be a great thing but somethimes can end up bringings us down. in fact i learnt that tonight that they way my life was goin before i graduated was quite easy very little change and then i was pushed into the working world, ended up moving out of my parents house and finding that this change isnt as great as i thought it would be. I feel some what lost, a bit out of place. Dont get my wrong i love bein independent and havein very little rules, but i miss things about livin wit my parents. Moving out has made me wonder more about things, why they happen. I know they are for a reason btu i wonder to what extent is the change i want really worth?
When it comes to the church i think it had to change a little bit as time goes on. The changes dont need to be drastic but thngs like the songs we sing in church. They are way different from when i went to church. They are way better i find for my generation and the younger ones as well. Its kind of sad but without that change i dont think SOME kids today would be AS willin to have a relationship with God. The connection with those songs have really help people i know and myself. But something that really hit my was what Glenn Wagener said about just likin the song for its tune but we're all not praising God which is what the songs are meant for. I think that is caused by the music world that is today. Some kids just like a song b/c it is popular, but then again there is music that saves people b/c they connect with it and knowin that someone else in the world is havin the same problems is in a weird way comforting. An songs can put out sooo much emotion that some people havent found another way to to put out their own. I know that i am a bit off topic but once i start i cant stop unitl my thoughts rn out on that subject. At which time i go on to somethin related.
Change is very hard to be determined as overrated. Change can improve someone's life, such as a person in a bad relationship makin a fresh start...how could that be overrated? maybe thats not excatly what your blog was about but you got me really really thinking. Thanks for the blogging talk to you sooon Jordan!

Good thoughts Tiffany... You should start blogging... I agree with you on the power of music..it's something else eh... I agree with Glen wagner as well, its cool that you remembered that and it had an effect on you... Praise songs are meant to praise the Creator and not so much for us to headbang too lol... and yeah I don't think change is overrated at all...i just wanted to present both sides and found the avenue of these two music groups to be helpful and relevant... I used to hate change but now im starting to like it and become more comfortable with it more and more as i go along... Change can indeed change our lives... As Christians Jesus doesn't so much require us to strive for change, but his grace and love will change us if we let it... we have to be willing to be changed though... Often our human nature likes familiarity and won't let this happen... Anyhow thanks for the thoughts, talk soon...Bless Ya!
